The latter passed away at the age of 99 after being hospitalised for almost a month. While he was released from hospital in order to recuperate, the best medical care was not enough to save him.
His passing, then, left a huge void in the Royal family. But the constant support from the public and close friends has gotten the couple through it all.
In a post to their followers on Instagram, the duo said: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge thank you for your kind words following the death of The Duke of Edinburgh.
“Their Royal Highnesses have been incredibly moved by the many thoughtful messages they have received in recent weeks.” Despite the warm words, the pair cannot help but mourn the loss.
After all, Philip was an instrumental figure for the couple. Not only had he been a crucial figure for the monarchy, but he had also been there for their kids: Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
That is why they have struggled to cope. The statement added: “They will all miss their much loved grandfather and great-grandfather, but your message has provided great comfort at this difficult time.”
Nevertheless, Philip has left behind many precious memories that the Royals can cherish. He was known for being witty, even though that would sometimes get him into major trouble.
But through all the controversial moments, he was ultimately there for Kate and William. In a statement at the time of his death, William remarked: “I will always be grateful that my wife had so many years to get to know my grandfather and for the kindness he showed her.
“I will never take for granted the special memories my children will always have.” The best thing the couple can do is continue to honour Philip.
The only way to do that is for them to show a united front irrespective of the recent backlash that has been directed at the Royal family. After all, that is what Philip would have wanted.
