Last night, something that seemed impossible finally happened. Nick Aldis lost the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, ending his reign after over 1000 days. He was beaten by Trevor Murdoch, who has really become a fan favorite with NWA fans with his working class gimmick and rough style. This ends one of the big issues fans have had with the NWA, and could finally get this belt seen in AEW.
Nick Aldis Is Reportedly Hard To Work With, Wouldn’t Show Up In AEW
For a while now, the NWA has had a nice agreement with AEW, but has mainly been used with the Women’s division. The NWA Women’s Championship has been defended many times on AEW programming, especially when Thunder Rosa & Serena Deeb were champions. However, even Kamille has shown up on AEW Dynamite, helping to set up the match with Leyla Hirsch on NWA EmPowerrr.
By all accounts, the lack of Nick Aldis showing up as the NWA World Heavyweight Championship was due to him being hard to deal with. Even with an easy setup match like a third match with Cody Rhodes, there would be little hope of seeing Aldis in AEW. This is no longer an issue, and NWA could now get their biggest title on national TV with Murdoch.
Trevor Murdoch Could Truly Bring Back The Travelling Champion Mentality
When many think of the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, they think of people like Ric Flair travelling the territories to defend the gold everywhere. This is what many fans hope to see from Murdoch, especially with NWA being involved in the big web of promotions that includes AEW, Impact Wrestling, New Japan Pro Wrestling, and with full access to the indies.
Murdoch has a good throwback style, and could add some variety to cards. Getting him in front of as many fans as possible would be the best move for NWA, even if he’s not exactly what many look like a megastar? He’s at least not known for having attitude issues.
It remains to be seen if Murdoch will be able to hold the title for long enough to take it onto TNT, but would this be something you’d want to see? What promotions should he defend the Ten Pounds Of Gold in? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
