Britt Baker thought she was clever when she put Jamie Hayter & Rebel against Kris Statlander this week on AEW Rampage. However, Statlander instead won a handicap match and is more fired up than ever tonight into a shot at the AEW Women’s World Championship. Statlander has been undefeated since coming back from injury tonight, and will have a big challenge ahead of her with Baker tonight at All Out.
Kris Statlander Has Her Neck Attacked
Orange Cassidy would second Statlander for this match, as Rebel & Hayter would be in the corner of Baker. Baker would go after the wrist of Statlander to start, taking her to the mat for an early attempt at Lockjaw. Statlander would grab a headlock, but Baker went for the ropes. Baker would narrowly avoid the Spider Crab, which tapped Rebel out on Friday.
Statlander would avoid another attempt at Lockjaw, before booping the nose of Baker and nailing a massive shoulder tackle. Baker would come back with a Fisherman’s Neckbreaker off the top rope, and Statlander would roll outside. OC would drive Hayter & Rebel away, before Statlander had her neck stomped on the apron.
Back in the ring, Statlander was in a cobra twist before fighting free. Some big forearm shots would crush Baker into the corner before a running knee to the face. Statlander would go for a lariat before missing and taking the Slingblade. Baker missed the Stomp, and took the Inside Hook Falcon Arrow. She’d kick out at two, and nail a big DDT for a near fall of her own.
Britt Baker Pulls Out All The Stops
Statlander would block a kick before hitting a roundhouse and looking for Big Bang Theory. Baker countered into a roll up, before hitting a flatliner into the middle corner pad. Going to the middle rope was a mistake, as Baker would take a forearm blow and a superplex. Baker tried to reverse, but Statlander powered her way through.
Going up top, Statlander went for Area 451 but Baker was able to dodge. Baker would for the Lockjaw but had to settle for a crossface. Statlander powered her up, and hit an electric chair drop and a scissor kick for a two count. Baker slipped outside, but dodged a pendulum moonsault off the apron. Statlander would take a major Curb Stomp, with Baker launching off the steel steps.
OC would fire up and shout for Statlander to get up. She would, and back in the ring blocked the Lockjaw into the Spider Crab. Baker kicked her way out, and looked for Panama Sunrise for the two count. A curbstomp would get another two, and Lockjaw finally ended it. A fantastic finishing stretch for sure.
Despite some rocky moments, this was a fine match. The atmosphere was incredible, but it’s clear these two are still early in their careers – and will only get better. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
