Over the past year, Ring of Honor has put on some of the best wrestling that we have seen on a weekly basis. The pure division has been fantastic, they’ve been building up their tag team division, and Bandido is catching some steam as the ROH World Champion. However, following Final Battle 2021 – they will be taking some time off to refocus and restructure how they handle their operations.
Ring Of Honor To Take First Quarter Of 2022 To Reimagine The Company
The statement was posted to Twitter, and would say the following.
“Throughout the pandemic our top priority was to keep everyone healthy and safe, and despite not producing any live events over 18 months, we were able to keep everyone fully contracted. We now find ourselves at a time where we need to make changes to our business operations and are planning a pivot for Ring of Honor, with a new mission and strategy.
The year will culminate with a Final Battle in December, and we will be taking the first quarter of 2022 to work internally to reimagine ROH. ROH has the most dedicated fans in the industry, and we appreciate their loyalty and patience as we reconceptualize ROH. We anticipate returning to live events in April for the Supercard of Honor with a new fan-focused product and provide a unique experience for wrestling fans.”
All Talent Released From Deals, Free To Work Anywhere They Please
While this seems fine, and gives their talent a chance to rest – it comes with a major caveat. They will not be renewing the contracts of any of their talent, with most deals ending at the end of the year. This means that names like Jay Lethal, Jonathan Gresham, Brody King, Danhausen, Bandido, Josh Woods, The Briscoe Brothers, and more will all become free agents.
Talent are allowed to work wherever they want effective immediately, and if a contract is good past the end of the year – it will be paid until March 2022. Those who’s deals ended in December will not be paid through March, which include names like Dragon Lee, RUSH, and PCO.
It will be interesting to see how this situation unfolds, but as of right now, Ring of Honor will be holding Final Battle 2021, and doing TV tapings in November. What will come in 2022 is a mystery, but we will do our best to keep you updated on this situation.
