The pair decided to go their separate ways after allegations emerged that Zayn had hit Gigi’s mother, Yolanda Hadid. Although Zayn denied doing anything of the sort, Gigi ultimately had to choose between Zayn and her mother.
Given that she also shares a daughter with Zayn, she had to put her first. But according to sources, things were not rosy even before this incident.
A source said: “Gigi and Zayn had a very destructive relationship when they were together romantically. It’s much better that they have separated.”
Looking back, this was potentially predictable. Before they had gotten back together, the two did split up on more than one occasion. And yet, when they reconciled, the duo announced that they would be welcoming their daughter shortly after.
However, given the manner in which Zayn had supposedly treated Yolanda, Gigi did not want to have something like this playing out again. If the following claims are true, then she had no choice.
Zayn had apparently done the following: “[He] shoved [Yolanda] into a dresser causing mental anguish and physical pain [and called her] a f–king Dutch slut.”
Despite the claims, Gigi could have chosen to work things out. But given that she walked away, there is a feeling that there were other issues going on.
And if Yolanda did not approve of Zayn, then it was always going to be much more difficult. Another insider remarked: “They’d been having problems for a while and tried to figure them out, but it just wasn’t working.”
Fans on social media have been left dejected by the split. The former couple were very popular in the public eye ever since they first hooked up. But the tide has now turned, with some believing that the Hadid’s did not handle this in the best possible manner.
This could have been done without the use of the media, as it would have kept the family intact and protected their daughter from unwarranted media attention.
In a post on Twitter, one fan was delighted to see Zayn leave the Hadids. She remarked: “YESSSS FINALLY HE IS FREE FROM THAT FAMILY.”
