If you want to see the thoughts of Cody Rhodes summarized in 280 characters or less, I have some bad news for you. Rhodes has decided that Twitter is not worth his time or effort. Right now he’s the most controversial character on All Elite Wrestling programming – simply for existing. This likely came with some less than desirable tweets being sent his way, and now – he’s taken the best route to fixing this.
Twitter Is A Vital Tool For Up & Coming Wrestlers – Which Cody Rhodes Is Not
While it has it’s negative aspects, Twitter can be a very powerful tool for professional wrestlers looking to get noticed. Every major company, and even most small time indies have an account, and that provides some major networking potential. Simply running a strong Twitter account could get a wrestler booked on shows, helping them get more and more chances.
A great example of this is WARHORSE, who was able to rally his fanbase to the point where he got a shot on AEW Dynamite. However, Cody Rhodes does not need to use Twitter to get booked. He’s an EVP for AEW, has another show on TNT, and frankly – he’s Cody Rhodes. If you’re a wrestling fan, you probably already know of him. Rhodes comes from a legendary family, has wrestled all around the world for WWE, PWG, ROH, NJPW and more.
Is This A Sign That Rhodes Needs Thicker Skin?
Frankly, once a wrestler is big enough and still performing in their prime, Twitter can be redundant. Giving fans an open system to talk to you is great, but it opens up someone to the worst of the internet as well. Being able to type up whatever you want and send it so someone to read is a powerful tool, one that can be misused and is misused.
At the end of the day, Rhodes does not benefit from having Twitter. He will still hear the disdain of fans when he hits the ring, but that comes with being a polarizing professional wrestler. Surely he’s got thick enough skin to deal with being boo’d, especially as he leans into it more often than not. When it comes to TV, the worst that will come of no Twitter for Rhodes is a potential rap from The Acclaimed.
