AEW Dynamite never has a typical start, but this week was something very new. This one would kick off in a big way, with the music of MJF sounding off in his hometown – only for CM Punk to make his way to the ring. He’d get boo’s for the first time in his AEW career, and would stoke the flames saying “Chicago was so much louder” and “That’s why the Islanders haven’t won a game in this arena.”
CM Punk Takes Shots At Long Island And Their Guy – MJF
However, Long Island didn’t disappoint like their guy MJF. He’d be wearing the new Four Pillars shirt, the one with Britt Baker taking the place of MJF. MJF is their guy, yet he’s an incel who can’t accept that a veteran like Punk putting over Baker without motives. Their guy is the coward who ran two weeks ago when Punk was ready to square up.
Punk wanted to take the chance to see the reaction it would get. MJF is their guy. Next week, Punk will be watching the match between Page & Danielson – as he wants the next challenge. MJF likely wants the same thing, so it’s time to settle who is truly better. Especially after MJF pulled Larry into this, Punk is fired up. He wants MJF one on one, and he’ll do it tonight if he needs to. After one more shot at Long Island, calling them cowards like their guy.
Casino Battle Royale Time!
It’s become an annual tradition, and tonight we will once again see the Dynamite Diamond Battle Royale. The last two men standing get to fight it out for a chance to carry the Dynamite Diamond ring for a year. MJF has won two years in a row, and tonight hopes to make it three in a row. He’d get a big entrance, listing his accomplishments in high school and college. Clearly he had nothing to do with the making of this video package.
He’d be joined in the match by Wardlow, Matt Hardy, Lee Morairty, Jay Lethal and more. Wardlow would save him from being thrown out by Lethal. Matt Sydal took the fight to Ricky Starks, as Wardlow took out Lee Moriarty. Sydal was out soon after, and Hardy punched Lethal with brass knuckles and threw him out.
Dante Martin took out Hardy, before being confronted by Lio Rush. Hobbs & Wardlow took them down, before testing the power of each other, with Wardlow almost getting the elimination – and Rush finishing the job. Starks almost had him out, and Lee Johnson would work on Kazarian. MJF was using Wardlow as a shield, and Starks was inches from elimination, but saved himself.
Starks again narrowly avoided elimination, with Rush determined to take him out. MJF was running in for cheap shots on Martin. Wardlow would be sent over the top rope by MJF, alongside Lio Rush & Lee Johnson. Kazarian was next, and Team Taz had two men left in the ring. Martin threw Starks out, and secured the spot in the match next week! He pulled the Team Taz armband off, which could be a huge mistake.
A low energy battle royale, not a great start to a show. Match Rating: 2/5 (**)
After the match, MJF would save Martin from an attack by Ricky Starks, before they teamed up to beat down MJF. CM Punk would rush the ring and send MJF running, but Starks was ready for a fight. Martin hit the enziguri, and Starks took the GTS. Will Dante Martin defeat MJF next week? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
