Users on TikTok often introduce plenty of “challenges” for viewers to attempt. In October, Louisiana native 18-year-old Larrianna Jackson was arrested for attacking and injuring a teacher as part of the “slap a teacher” challenge and has pled not guilty by reason of insanity.
Covington High School Student Strikes Teacher in TikTok Slap a Teacher Challenge Gone as Expected
Investigators on the case believe that the incident was related to the “slap a teacher” challenge—a challenge listed on a larger list of anti-social acts involving vandalism of school property and assaulting others.
In a video obtained by the Covington Police Department, the teacher is shown sitting at their desk while talking with the 18-year-old student. Then the teacher is punched by Jackson and falls to the ground where they are subjected to more punches from the student.
The Arrest and PD Response
The teacher received injuries as a result of the “challenge” and had to receive medical attention at a local hospital. As for Jackson, the Covington PD took her to the St. Tammany Jail where she was charged with felony second-degree battery and cruelty to the infirmed.
In a statement, the Covington PD issued a warning about the consequences of participating in violent TikTok challenges:
“The Covington Police Department would like to remind everyone that anyone who participates in such a challenge will be booked accordingly. In this post we also attached the video that has been circulating around the internet. This matter is still under investigation and more arrests for forthcoming.”
On the day of the incident, TikTok took to Twitter and weighed in on the situation stating:
The rumored ‘slap a teacher’ dare is an insult to educators everywhere. And while this is not a trend on TikTok, if at any point it shows up, content will be removed. Learn more about practicing responsible behavior here: [PDF LINK]
Jackson is scheduled for a court appearance on March 14 and her jury trial takes place on March 28. If convicted, she faces up to 10 years behind bars. She has pled not guilty by reason of insanity.
