A local San Diego woman took to a county board meeting lectern to voice her disapproval of COVID-19 vaccination and emergency protocol. In addition to her voice, she used a popular Mariah Carey Christmas classic to voice her disapproval.
San Diego Woman Summons the Power of Mariah Carey to Express First Amendment Right in Song Form
Identified only as “Bridgette”, the San Diego native was in attendance as the County Board of Supervisors discussed continuing support of the COVID-19 health emergency order. As is the case with the city council or county board meetings, the public is allowed to step up and voice their opinions on things.
That’s just what “Bridgette” did, folks. She donned a Santa hat and prepared herself to belt out one of R&B and pop diva Mariah Carey’s most iconic songs: “All I Want for Christmas Is You”.
However, this wasn’t just Carey’s song, it was a remixed version with altered verses to express her anti-vax stance as well as alternatives that have been proven not to work but are still promoted such as hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin. Sing along if you know the words:
I don’t want a lot for Christmas, just body autonomy. I don’t care about the variants, because of natural immunity
I just want my freedom now, the constitution will show us how, make my dreams come true
End the state of emergency and acknowledge early treatment too.
Ivermectin, not just [inaudible] hydroxychloroquine, vitamin C and vitamin D, and zinc and [inaudible]
I won’t wear a useless mask, I don’t need to stay at home, and my kids should go to school. We don’t need to be alone
I just want my freedom now, the constitution will show us how, make my dreams come true, baby I … end the emergency
OK, so it’s nowhere near being a holiday banger–actually, it’s a massacre of a wonderful song–but if you’d like to see the performance, San Diego County records meetings for the public. Above, YouTube channel HOLA cut the highlight from the meeting but it actually comes in over two hours in.
“All I Want for Christmas Is You” was released in October 1994 as an A-side track on her Christmas album Merry Christmas. The song holds numerous honors in both singles and Christmas songs lists and three Guinness Book of Records honors. Mariah Carey hasn’t addressed the rendition yet—nor is she really expected to do so.
