James Franco has opened up on his relationship with actor/comedian Seth Rogen.
James Franco Has No Hard Feelings With Seth Rogen’s Decision To Distance Himself From The Actor Amid His Sexual Assault Allegations
It is no secret that the pair are not on good terms ever since James’ sexual misconduct allegations came to light in 2018.
According to reports, numerous women including Sarah Tither-Kaplan and Toni Gall came forward to make allegations against James.
Although he denied doing anything of the sort, the very fact of the matter is that James ended up paying over 2 million dollars in order to settle out of court.
That is not to say that this was an admission of guilt, especially since people can pay out to avoid the negative media publicity that would otherwise emerge from a trial.
And in the aftermath of this scandal, James decided to addresses his issues by admitting that he had a sex and alcohol addiction. But in response to the saga, Seth decided to cut ties with him.
In a statement at the time, Seth remarked:“I have not, and I do not plan to [work with Franco] right now. What I can say is that I despise abuse and harassment.”
Nevertheless, James has no hard feelings towards Seth. After all, prior to this scandal emerging, the pair had been very close friends for over a decade. That is why there was an element of regret that the pair were no longer on good terms.
During an interview on the ‘The Jess Cagle Podcast,’ James said: “I love Seth Rogen. I worked with him for 20 years. We didn’t have one fight for 20 years. Not one fight. He was my absolute closest work friend, collaborator. We just gelled.”
Having said that, though, Seth was left in a very difficult position as defending James could have been interpreted as endorsing his conduct, with the impact of demeaning the victims who had taken so much courage to come forward.
And given that cancel culture is such a touchy issue, it is very important to avoid getting oneself involved in controversy particularly when it does not concern the individual. Time will tell if they can ever patch things up.
