Ryan Seacrest is a proud producer after his annual New Year’s Rockin’ Eve special drew the biggest numbers of any New Year’s special on television—despite Andy Cohen roasting the special.
Andy Cohen Regrets One Thing About Drunken Roast of New Year’s Rockin’ Eve
Andy Cohen is no fan of ABC’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. He’s said as much with podcast co-host and fellow New Year’s Eve Live host Anderson Cooper. While tipsy on air, the Real Housewives executive producer even said “I’m sorry but if you’re watching ABC, you’re watching nothing.”
Ryan Seacrest’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve Reigns On Top Despite Drunken Roast by New Year’s Eve Live Co-Host Andy Cohen
On the note of Cohen being slizzard on New Year’s Eve, Cohen regrets nothing. While he was on live television as a co-host and he did go on a roast fest on Ryan Seacrest’s production among other things, it was New Year’s Eve. Not only that but as Cohen pointed out; the booze didn’t start to hit until later into a four-and-a-half-hour special. He told Howard Stern:
“I will not be shamed for having fun on New Year’s Eve. That’s why I’m there. That’s why they bring me there.”
However, he had a different tone in regards to roasting New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. On his Radio Andy podcast, Andy Cohen said that he actually liked Seacrest and felt that he was a great guy:
“The only thing that I regret saying, the only thing, is that I slammed the ABC broadcast. I really like Ryan Seacrest, and he’s a great guy. I really regret saying that, and I was just stupid and drunk and feeling it.”
Ryan Seacrest Scores Big with New Year’s Rockin’ Eve
The CNN special pulled a strong 2.1 million viewers for New Year’s Eve specials on cable television, taking the top spot. CNN has said that both Cohen and Anderson Cooper would return for the special later this year. Meanwhile, the ABC special blew all of its competition out of the water on network and cable television.
In an Instagram post about the ratings for New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, Ryan Seacrest thanked everyone who made the massive 19.6 million viewership possible:
“Thank you to everyone who made this year’s #RockinEve another success! To all those who tuned in, to my amazing co-hosts @lizakoshy, @ciara, @theebillyporter, @roselyn_sanchez, as well as the incredible artists and the crew who made the 50th Anniversary so special. We couldn’t have done it without you!”
