Last week, CM Punk pulled out an old Bret Hart trick to overcome Wardlow, but the damage was done. Powerbomb after powerbomb landed, and now MJF has another challenge for CM Punk. Shawn Spears is his opponent tonight, so Punk has to face a man who’s walked the same path as him – and is potentially more dangerous than even Wardlow.
Trouble In The Inner Circle – Lights Out Match Incoming
Before this match, we’d catch up with Jericho, Santana & Ortiz. They’re realising that Eddie Kingston had a point, and have been busy fighting Jericho’s battles – and that has meant they are unable to focus on the AEW World Tag Team Championships. Next week, they meet 2point0 and Daniel Garcia in trios action – and maybe will prove they don’t actually need Jericho, and are better without.
We’d also hear from Adam Cole. He’s sick of dealing with Orange Cassidy, and him putting his hands on Britt Baker was the last straw. Next week, this ends. It’ll be no rules, unsanctioned, and violent. Adam Cole vs. Orange Cassidy in a Lights Out match at Beach Break!
CM Punk Doesn’t Break A Sweat With Shawn Spears – Gunn Club Attacks Christian Cage
MJF would hit the commentary booth for this match, and CM Punk would start the match with a Go To Sleep for the pinfall victory. That was the last thing MJF had to put infront of Punk, and hit the ring himself now. He hoped to get the cheap shot, but Punk caught him. Grabbing him by his scarf, MJF would leave it and flee.
We’d catch up with Billy Gunn, who would have a meeting with Christian Cage. His boys are in the Top 5, and it’s time for a title shot. Jurassic Express are the champions, and Christian is the mentor – but Christian feels Billy Gunn’s sons are like him – not able to get the win. When they make a statement, they can consider a shot coming. They’d take this to heart, and a three on one beatdown did just that.
Cody Rhodes Has A Lot To Say
Right now, Cody Rhodes is the hottest free agent in professional wrestling. Despite being the TNT Champion, he’s working without an AEW contract. Rhodes hit the ring and set up a ladder – and the message there is clear. What better way to determine who the true champion is?
However, Rhodes grabbed a microphone and recounted when CM Punk lit the pipebomb, and inspired many men to step up. Rhodes would say that this roadmap is what he followed for his career from that moment. Punk didn’t go to NJPW, but Rhodes did. He never went back to ROH, but Rhodes became their champion. However, Punk did come to AEW – and that was the return of the ages… but was he needed.
Because Rhodes is doing what Punk couldn’t do, and kept the revolution rolling – and for what? To get mixed reactions from fans?
Rhodes would say that the Forbidden Door was built by him – being the man who was going to every promotion and putting in the work. He was gone for two weeks and The Young Bucks almost started up the Wednesday Night Wars, Ricky Starks picked up a feud with Jay Lethal, and Malakai Black brought in a monster in Brody King. AEW doesn’t rename people, but coming into AEW with a name like Brody takes balls.
Rhodes would say that people need to view the TNT Championship as a top belt – but that can’t be done while there is two champions. He’d formally challenge Guevara to a ladder match for next week – and that sounds like a great match for sure.
