Actress Sydney Sweeney has addressed the view that she was not praised for her work prior to her success in ‘The White Lotus.’
Actress Sydney Sweeney Admits That Her Career Was Impacted After Appearing Naked On TV
The star, who is best known for making an appearance in the first season of the hit show ‘Euphoria,’ felt that her acting career had taken a blow by virtue of the fact that she appeared naked on the show.
Naturally, rather than her acting skills being recognised, she believed that she was type-casted into certain roles on the basis of that particular season. While she has begun to receive recognition, the very fact of the matter is that prior to this, it did bother her.
During an interview with The Independent, she said: “With ‘The White Lotus,’ I felt like people were finally recognizing the hard work I’ve been doing.
“This is something that has bothered me for a while. I’m very proud of my work in ‘Euphoria.’ I thought it was a great performance.”
One of the reasons that she feels contributed to this attitude towards her was on the basis of her gender. Sydney admitted that there is a lot of stigma surrounding stereotypical views of women when it comes to performing explicit scenes.
And unlike women, she feels that men are praised at the expense of women despite doing the very same things. That is something she feels has to be addressed in order to encourage more people into the acting profession.
She added: “When a guy has a sex scene or shows his body, he still wins awards and gets praise. But the moment a girl does it, it’s completely different.”
It is not surprising to hear then that she did regret some scenes that she had performed because her integrity might have become compromised. And that is something that she does not want to be doing again.
Her following comments confirmed as much: “I’ve had experiences where I want to go home and scrub myself completely raw because I feel disgusting.”
