Recently, AEW lost a bright star in Lio Rush. His stint in the company was very brief, with him only getting to wrestle a handful of matches there – but the future remains bright for Lio Rush. He would prove he was dependable at The WLRD on GCW – when he stepped in to replace a sick Jonathan Gresham, and is set to keep working across the indies. However – wrestling might fall to the back burner for Rush, as he announced that he has now signed a deal with Universal Music Group.
Lio Rush Already Has Two Albums Under His Belt – And An Equally Bright Future As In Wrestling
The news was confirmed by Rush himself, who hyped up the announcement earlier in the day – and would say the following.
“Today I signed a deal with Universal Music Group, Thump Records and Virgin Music.”
This isn’t exactly a shock however, as Lio Rush has already released two albums. Combine a track record in music alongside some name value due to his time in the biggest wrestling promotions in the world, and he’s a no-brainer for a place like UMG.
Rap music is arguably more popular than ever in 2022, and the path to success is easier in some ways. Get a song to go viral on an app like TikTok, and the world is your oyster. Rush has a built in fan-base as well, even if not all of his wrestling fans are ready to tune into his music.
The reaction from wrestling fans have been mixed, with some wondering how long it will take for him to lash out at his new bosses and quit. This is in reference to him being the first to step up about Tony Khan making comments about Big Swole – and leaving TV soon after, before announcing his status as a free agent.
However, it’s often ignored that Rush & Khan ended on good terms, after speaking with Khan about ‘“endeavours to further understand the struggles of the black community”. Rush would also say that he was proud to work for Khan and AEW.
