It’s Wednesday and that means another week in the wrestling war! We’ve got another ep of AEW Dynamite to look forward to tonight, and as always, a fair few major matches being advertised well in advance! I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here to give some analysis of what to expect, and what brought us here!
And tonight, we have a big return on tap, as for the first time since the stunning loss at AEW Full Gear…
Cody Rhodes makes his return to the ring!
Cody was of course betrayed by MJF during his AEW World Title match against Chris Jericho, and by Cody’s own stipulation, he will now never challenge for that title ever again. Cody went against doctor’s orders appearing on AEW Dynamite a few nights later to confront MJF, only to get choked out by the debuting Wardlow for his troubles.
The next week, Cody’s in-ring return was announced, and it’s only fitting that he make it in time for this return to the Sears Centre in Chicago. Cody’s last trip here saw him defeat Shawn Spears at All Out – happier times for him, to be sure.
It’s not known who Cody will be facing. Given the anonymity, one wouldn’t imagine it’s any sort of big opponent for him. Generally speaking when someone is advertised in this way in AEW, they’ll either be facing Peter Avalon if they’re a babyface, or Brandon Cutler if they’re a heel. Either way, barring some surprise, this should be an easy win for Cody on his first night back.
It’s also thought that we’ll be hearing from him afterwards, in his first real promo since Full Gear, though he did speak on MJF’s turn on an episode of AEW Dark last week. But after his last promo in front of a live crowd, many have been itching to see the next one, to say the least.
