All Elite Wrestling is a company still very much in it’s infancy. They have been having a solid run of shows in the past year. But not everything has exactly been done perfectly. The new freshness has worn off. Many are starting to notice the flaws within how they have been running this new company. One person who noticed a few flaws in Mick Foley, who in an interview with Inside The Ropes was asked about his thoughts on AEW.
Mick Foley: “I think someone needs to reign some of these guys in. “
Mick Foley has always been one of the best spoken men in professional wrestling. This statement is a great show of that. “Some of the guys have grown up yearning after the, ‘This is awesome,’ chant. But having had the experience of being in the angles that need to draw money, I think for guys of my era, there was definitely a very real sense that if the angle wasn’t successful, you didn’t draw at the houses. And there was no other ancillary means of income.
I’m not down on the guys, but I think you’re seeing some inexperience in shooting angles and performing for the camera. So guys are out there, it’s an admirable trait that they want to have the best match they possibly can, but every guy wanting to have the best match at every venue doesn’t necessarily lead to the best promotion. That’s just my opinion.
So, I think someone needs to reign some of these guys in. Like Gerald Brisco told me when I got to WWE, he says, “We know you like to do a lot of these things. There may come a time when we ask you to do that, but until then we’re going to ask you not to.” And that really improved my longevity.”
It is hard to argue with his point. Where most people in AEW have come from smaller promotions or haven’t had much experience with TV, they just want to deliver amazing matches and that’s it. They have been successful at this so far, but someone does need to become the voice of reason. You don’t want to shorten your career by going all out from the start.
Do you agree with Mick Foley on this aspect of AEW? Do you think they are fine with how they’ve been handling their shows? Let us know what you have to say. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled on the Overtimer. We will bring more news, rumors and speculation within the wild world of wrestling.
