AEW Dynamite is on tonight and you’ll be able to see the results below as they come, plus links to in-depth recaps.
Segment 1: In the opening match, Colt Cabana took on Lance Archer in the first round of the TNT Championship Tournament. Colt put on a tough showing and kept fighting in spite of a pretty bad beating but in the end, of course, Archer got the victory, advancing to the next round of the tournament.
Segment 2: Britt Baker has a vignette, seemingly the first in a series where she goes over the rules of being a role model. She says Rule #1 is to always fight fair, something she accuses Hikaru Shida of neglecting. The likes of Taz, Ariel Helani, Ron Funches and Mike Goldberg talk up Jon Moxley vs. Jake Hager and make their predictions for the match. Britt Baker took on and quickly defeated Cassandra Golden.
Segment 3: A vignette titled the Bubbly Bunch plays where we see the Inner Circle talking in a group phone call, decrying Matt Hardy and the Elite. This leads to Sammy Guevara going up against Sugar Dunkerton. It was less of a pure squash than I expected but Guevara got the victory. Afterwards he called out Darby Allin and said he’d show everyone how he’s gonna beat the hell out of Allin, before stomping Suge’s face until Allin came out to make the save and run him off.
Segment 4: In the next match we had Kip Sabian taking on Chuck Taylor. Sabian had Penelope Ford by his side whilst Orange Cassidy backed up Taylor. After a back-and-forth, Jimmy Havoc leaped out from the crowd and attacked Cassidy, whilst Penelope Ford hit Chuckie T with a flying headscissor, which allowed Sabian to pick up the victory.
Segment 5: Shawn Spears took on Justin Law and quickly defeated him. Then, with over 30 minutes left in the show, came the start of the main event. In a No Holds Barred match for the AEW World Championship, reigning champion Jon Moxley defended his title against Jake Hager. It was a very unique bout, a true empty arena match without even any of the wrestlers out there in the crowd area. In a match framed as a realistic, gritty fight all across the arena, Jon Moxley ultimately picked up the win and retained his title.
