AEW Dynamite is on again tonight and below, you’ll be able to see the results from the show as they come, plus links to in-depth recaps! Watch this space!
Segment 1: To open the show we saw a video from Cody talking up the TNT Championship tournament and everyone still in it, putting over what AEW’s achieved and how TNT was bold enough to commission a new title. In the first match of the night, we got seemingly the most major of the first round, with Darby Allin taking on Sammy Guevara in an AEW Revolution rematch. Like their last encounter, the battle began long before the bell rang with Sammy jumping Darby this time around. It was a wild battle with Darby targeting Sammy’s injured foot once again and Sammy busting Darby’s nose. In the end, Allin managed to put on the Last Supper hold for the pin and the victory, advancing in the tournament.
Segment 2: Matt Hardy sends a warning to the Elite and chastises Chris Jericho for not answering his Elite Deletion challenge. Teases a match with Sammy Guevara as well, since he was the only one who had it in him to mention him by name. Then Kenny Omega faced off with Alan Angels. It was much less of a squash than anyone would’ve predicted, but in the end Kenny put him away with a second V-Trigger.
Segment 3: A video detailing Scorpio Sky’s struggles in his early years in wrestling, going into what he had to overcome including serious injury issues. We hear a voicemail from Dustin Rhodes detailing why he will be retiring if he loses to Kip Sabian. Then Jimmy Havoc took on Orange Cassidy. Cassidy surprised him with an inside cradle for the victory.
Segment 4: MJF gives us an ‘injury update’ and explains that while he was gambling and throwing around money on his last Dynamite appearance he got a hangnail and it’s a severe, life-threatening injury. That’s why he hasn’t been wrestling of late. Then, his heavy Wardlow squashed Lee Johnson.
Segment 5: The Dark Order gets a new recruit in a former Heisman Hopeful who was in a bad way after having the whole world in his hands and losing it all. Brodie Lee happily welcomed him. Then Brodie squashed Justin Law and continued teasing going after Marko Stunt.
Segment 6: In the main event, Dustin Rhodes takes on Kip Sabian in the first round of the TNT Championship Tournament. And if Dustin lost, he’ll retire! But fortunately Dustin got the victory (with a Canadian Destroyer!) and thus advanced to the semi-finals.
