Terry “Bam Bam” Gordy. The Human Torpedo. Gordy was one of those talented big men. He was ageless and could’ve had a longer career if it weren’t for drugs.
He was someone who could do it all in the ring despite his size. He was Vader without the charisma and star power and Bam Bam Bigelow without the monster look.

Career Spotlight
However, he had an incredible run in All Japan as part of the Miracle Violence Connection with “Dr. Death” Steve Williams. The team would appear in WCW as well.
Note, his WCW stint wasn’t that memorable. The team held the Unified Tag Titles for roughly two months and that was it for them in the company. It’s a shame, really.
If he couldn’t have that singles run that always eluded him, he could’ve at least been part of that tough as nails bruiser tandem that dominated the tag scene.
It’s just odd that he was that talented for most of his career and no promoter considered giving him a strong singles run—outside of Bill Watts in UWF.
His Triple Crown reigns in All Japan were both added up to two weeks and he was Smoky Mountain Heavyweight champion for a month.
In the case of SMW, the company was closing down so that can’t really be blamed on Cornette’s booking. I mean, he put the belt on Gordy.
This would be his last title win with a little under four years left in his career. He was in bad shape following his overdose.
Sadly, it’s no surprise that no promoters would hand him the torch post-1994 even if he was still in his 30s.
Salvaging Terry Gordy
The best way to have salvaged Gordy’s career was to have guys around him who looked out for his well-being. Guys who kept him off drugs or limited his use.
However, that would be saying that Bam Bam needed a babysitter when he was grown-ass man. From a booking standpoint, this is getting harder.
You could say he should’ve stayed in Japan where he was over like rover. I could see him succeeding in WCW in the early 1990s if he wasn’t so loyal to All Japan.
Since early WCW was very focused on in-ring traditional wrestling, he would’ve served as a great threat to Sting who was regularly fighting bruisers and monsters.
An eventual face turn and a showdown with Vader over the WCW World Title would’ve been memorable pre-1994.
