Last week, Eddie Kingston didn’t tap out to the bulldog choke of Jon Moxley. The referee called for the bell, but Kingston did not quit, and was confused as to why the match was over when he came too. He’d have The Lucha Bros come to the ring to beat Moxley down, and tonight? The Mad King has the power to choose an opponent for Jon Moxley, with the belt on the line. Who will get a shot at championship glory?
Before Kingston would reveal who gets the shot, he’d threaten Bryce Remsburg over the call to end the match last week, before Moxley hit the ring with the AEW Championship in one hand, barbed wire bat in the other. Everyone thought it might be one of the Lucha Bros, but no. Butcher is here to kick Moxley’s ass.
Butcher Gets An AEW Championship Match
As a big fan of Every Time I Die, seeing Andy Williams wrestle is always pretty amazing, but he’s got a world title match on TV, which certainly isn’t something anyone ever expected. He’d hit a big lariat on Moxley, before nailing a clubbing blow. Moxley would go for a chop and be caught and dumped on his head. Butcher dropped some heavy knees, and more clubbing blows.
Moxley wasn’t able to deal with the unexpected power and size of Butcher. He has beaten men like Brodie Lee & Jake Hager, but had time to prepare for them. Butcher had the element of surprise, and that led to him remaining in control as we headed into the commercial break.
Coming back from the break, Butcher was working over the knee of Moxley, making it even harder for a comeback to go smoothly. Butcher would twist it into a submission, and Moxley would kick out with the good leg. He’d counter a powerslam, and slip behind for a neckbreaker, finally downing Butcher, and then look for a cross armbreaker on Butcher.
Butcher would manage to counter out into a single leg crab, and when Moxley almost broke out, Butcher just ran down heavy shots to the face. A running powerslam would get a near fall, and he’d go right back to the leg with a single leg crab. This was a simple gameplan, but Butcher was playing it perfectly.
Jon Moxley Shows His Toughness
He’d look for another powerslam, but Moxley countered and tried for the Paradigm Shift, failing to get Butcher. Another leg submission, Moxley fought out again only to take a lariat. They’d end up on the outside, and Butcher just dodged a charging Butcher who’d crash head first into the barricade, finally giving Moxley a chance in this match.
This chance was almost brief as Moxley was run through with a crossbody block, getting a near fall for Butcher. A pumphandle slam and a big leg drop almost pinned Moxley again, before going to the middle rope. Moxley would stun him with a forearm and set up a superplex, but Butcher got the leg again! Butcher would be sent into the corner, but he walked into a piledriver by Moxley, more damage to the neck as Moxley got fired up.
Butcher would be set up on the top rope for a superplex, and Moxley would be pushed off and hit with a crossbody off the middle rope. However, with Jon Moxley it can take one move to end a match, and he’d nail a snap Paradigm Shift, and the Bulldog Choke would be set up, Butcher forced to tap out.
Can Jon Moxley survive Lance Archer in two weeks given the damage on his body? Is Eddie Kingston done with him? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
