This past week on AEW Dynamite, Shawn Spears cut a passionate promo backstage claiming that he was sick of being under appreciated in the company. It was a great promo, and after having a solid year in the ring during feuds with the likes of Scorpio Sky and Cody Rhodes? Things were feeling great for Spears. However, following that promo, Spears was removed from the AEW roster page. Could he be done with the company, or simply moving to a different role?
Shawn Spears Is A Very Talented Trainer, With Lots To Offer Behind The Scenes
Being one of the most fundamentally strong wrestlers on the planet today, it makes sense that Spears is helping to train the next generation of professional wrestlers. Alongside Tyler Breeze he helps to run Flatbacks Wrestling School. They pride themselves on offering an 8 week course to get people started on their professional wrestling journey, and having the safest training around.
This might be a major reason why Spears is heading out from AEW, to focus more on training wrestlers at his school. It’s also very possible that he will start to pitch in at the Nightmare Factory, where Cody Rhodes & QT Marshall train the future of AEW. Spears has arguably more to offer behind the scenes to a company like AEW anyways, where he often just blends into the packed roster.
Expect To See Him Back In AEW Eventually
Seeing as AEW let him essentially announce on Dynamite that he was leaving the company, it’s safe to say if they are splitting ways? It will have been on good terms. Spears is by all accounts a fantastic person to work with, and remains good friends with Cody Rhodes.
This situation will almost certainly lead to Spears making a dramatic return to the company when the time is right. He remains a popular figure, and his entrance theme alone could get a live crowd excited for this moment. Until then, AEW Dark will have an open slot for someone else to show their skills.
