Back at TLC 2020, Sasha Banks got a major test as Smackdown Women’s Champion, when she faced a more dangerous Carmella than ever before. She was able to make a proper title defense, but Carmella took her to her limits. Carmella knows she can win, so she annoyed Banks until she got her rematch. Banks agreed, but got to have a match with Carmella’s manager, Reginald. She tapped him out, and now looks to do the same to Carmella once again.

Carmella Gets Some Help From Reginald

As soon as the match started, Banks went right for Banks Statement, and Carmella fled the ring to clear her head. Back in the ring, Banks right back to work with a springboard arm drag and a chop to the chest. Reginald got on the apron to distract Banks, allowing Carmella to get a cheap shot and sending her to the outside. Banks was thrown off the announce table, but that only got a two count back in the ring.

Carmella hit some back elbows in the corner, battering Banks before hitting a boot in the corner and a headscissors with Banks bent over the ropes, using the full five count. Banks fought back to her feet, only to take a neckbreaker and be locked in a headlock. She fought free, got an elbow in the corner before heading to the middle rope only to be caught by Carmella.

Carmella went for the old Trish Stratus headscissor takedown, was shoved off and hit with the diving Meteora. Banks would have her hair tied up in the ropes, before being stomped hard into the mat. Carmella lost control, had her head slammed off the corner post before taking double knees as Banks slingshots over the top rope. Banks would go for the Three Amigos, but Carmella stopped suplex three before throwing her outside. Reginald caught Banks, was sent flying with a headscissor and kicked out by the referee.

Sasha Banks Picks Up The Pace

Carmella went for a dive, caught Banks but also landed hard on her face. She was able to capitalize with a pinfall in the ring, but only got a two count. Carmella argued with the referee about Reginald being thrown out, before being rolled up for a near fall and hit with that Third Amigo. Banks went for the Frog Splash, Carmella got the knees up and applied Code Of Silence.

The arm of Carmella was kicked out from underneath her allowing Banks to get free. Carmella countered the Banks Statement attempt, took a knee to the face and then countered a dive with a series of superkicks for another near fall. Banks would take advantage of a frustrated Carmella, apply the Banks Statement and notch another defense.

Banks brings out the best in every opponent, and Carmella can be excellent when given the chance. She really shined in the back half of this match, after Reginald was eliminated. This won’t be on many match of the year lists, but was a solid title defense for Banks. Match Rating 3/5 (***)
