It was a memorable evening in the Premier League on Saturday night, as Everton ended their 21-year wait for a win at Anfield by beating Liverpool 2-0 in the Merseyside derby. Liverpool’s season continues to go from bad to worse with another defeat, as they have now lost four straight games at home. That is the first time they have gone on that kind of run since 1923. Top-four now looks to be an uphill battle for the champions, but Saturday night was all about the resilience shown by the blues of Merseyside.

Soccer News: Everton End 24-Game Wait

There was a strong impression going into the weekend that Everton would have never had a better opportunity to claim an away win at Liverpool. The Reds were struggling for form, while toe Toffees had been on an incredible run of form away from home. The nerves in the households of Everton fans would have been all over the place just before kick off, but they were eased slightly early on, as James Rodriguez set up Richarlison to fire the travelling Blues ahead within five minutes.

It was more about their defensive play throughout much of the game after that point, but the despondent Liverpool front three very rarely threatened the Everton backline. Michael Keane was particularly impressive in the win, as he continues to be one of their standout players this season. Everton’s moment to wrap up the game finally game seven minutes from time from the penalty spot after Trent Alexander-Arnold brought down Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Gylfi Sigurdsson made no mistake from 12 yards out.

Soccer News: Wins For Manchester Clubs And Leicester

The top three in the Premier League continued to race away from Liverpool on Sunday, as Manchester United, Manchester City and Leicester City all picked up wins. Leicester were convincing on the road against Aston Villa, as they picked up a 2-1 win, before City didn’t even need to get out of second gear to see off Arsenal. Raheem Sterling scored the only goal of the game with less than three minutes played.

Manchester United ended the games on Sunday with a sketchy performance to see off Newcastle United. United were underwhelming in the first half but were able to runaway with the win after second half goals from Bruno Fernandes and Daniel James. The defeat for Newcastle means that they are just three points above the drop zone. Meanwhile, West Ham beat Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, with Jesse Lingard among the scorers. The Hammers sit fourth in the league table, and are five points clear of Liverpool.
