Demi Lovato has urged her fans to refrain from commenting about people’s bodies, regardless of their intention.
Demi Lovato Urges Fans Not To Comment On People’s Body Weight!!
The singer, who has been making headlines in her own right, recently declared herself as non-binary-which put an end to the speculation over her sexuality. And now it seems she is addressing the topic of weight in light of her struggles with an eating disorder.
In a post to her fans on Instagram, Demi said: “I [don’t know] who needs to hear this but complimenting someone on their weight loss can be as harmful as complimenting someone.” Demi, for her part, has been vocal about the battles with her body ever since she was hospitalised following her drug overdose.
Although she has taken attempts to deal with it, her emphasis on still dabbling with substances on the basis of moderation has gotten many people talking. And much in the same vein, Demi has discouraged people from making comments regarding weight for fear that it could cause more harm than good.
She added: “Please don’t comment on their body. Because even if your intention is pure, it might leave that person awake at 2 am overthinking that statement.” This merely goes on to highlight how vulnerable Demi is to social media. In the aftermath of her recovery from the drug overdose, she spoke on how she had to learn from not sharing too much about her personal life with the public.
This was the reason why she released her documentary entitled ‘Dancing with the Devil.’ She wanted to only put her side of the story across. Despite people’s positive intentions, Demi is looking to avoid being dragged into any type of conversation. And she made an analogy about herself just to show how such comments could end up being dangerous.
She continued: “The loud a** eating disorder voice inside my head that says, “See, people like a thinner you. Then I start thinking, ‘Well, damn. What’d they think of my body before?” Demi is certainly letting her fans know exactly how she feels about this, but given the toxic nature of social media, her advice is likely to go unheeded.
