Former US President Barack Obama has announced the tragic death of the family’s dog.
Former US President Barack Obama’s Dog Has Passed Away
The dog, who went by the name of Bo, came into the family home a year after Obama had taken office. It continued the well-known tradition of Presidents bringing pets into office. While this was momentarily broken off by previous President Donald Trump, it did not stop the Obama’s from leaving an emotional tribute.
In a post to his fans on Twitter, Obama said: “This past year, with everyone back home during the pandemic, no one was happier than Bo…I will always be grateful that Bo.” The news also had an impact on Obama’s daughters: Malia and Sasha. Bo had initially been given to them as a gift.
This was in response to their courage in handling the intense pressure that was coming the family’s way amid the election campaign. It had reportedly been gifted by the late Ted Kennedy, and with that, it carried a lot of history. In the picture, we can see the family posing for a photo.
Bo is situated on the right. The dog’s black and white colours are also significant for several reasons. Firstly, this type of breed did not cause allergies for Malia. Secondly, the dog had been seen as a symbolic representation of the unity between black America and white America. So the passing was very significant.
Obama added: “He tolerated all the fuss that came with being in the White House, had a big bark but no bite… lived for scraps around the dinner table, and had great hair.” That is how Bo should be remembered. And yet, during those latter moments of his life, Bo was suffering from very bad health.
The dog had been battling cancer, and despite the best medical care in the world, it was not enough to save his life. That is why the former President urged everyone to cherish their close ones. He continued: “We…are grateful for all the love you showed him over the years. Please hug the furry members of your family a little closer tonight.”
Although Bo has left his family, they still have plenty of memories. Let us know what you think in the comment section down below. Please also remember to stay up to date with the latest news on TheOvertimer. Don’t forget to visit Gamestingr for great videos, news, and gameplay!
