While we’re sadly not seeing the matches from the Autumn Attack yet, we still have two weeks of Fighting Spirit Unleashed left. Next week brings the Strong Openweight Championship being defended, but tonight has Jay White in action, as well as Yuji Nagata in tag team action. NJPW always delivers on Strong, and tonight was no exception.
Jay White Gets Tested By Wheeler Yuta
The DKC & Kevin Knight both came into NJPW Strong a while back, and were able to prove themselves to Katsuyori Shibata and be entered into the LA Dojo. Tonight, they’d get a major test as they faced off with both the legendary Yuji Nagata and young lion on excursion Yuya Uemura. It was a hard hitting match, with DKC & Knight wrestling a fine match. However, it takes more than a fine match to beat Yuji Nagata, who would catch Knight in a crossface for the submission win.
Next up was Jay White taking on Wheeler Yuta. These are two of the smoothest wrestlers in the world today, with White as the current NEVER Openweight Championship. Yuta would start off really fast – and actually be out wrestling White… until a poke to the eyes. White is the master of heel tactics, but would still get caught a few times with very close pinfalls. However a sleeper suplex and Blade Runner put Yuta down for the three.
Fred Rosser Gets Caught
After the match, White would grab the microphone and give some praise to Yuta – but he’d mention that he wasn’t who fans wanted to see face him. They wanted Tomohiro Ishii, who Jay White has been ducking. Ishii would be called out and White teased a match right now… before fleeing. White would get spit on, and lured back into the ring, where Ishii almost caught him with a brainbuster. However a low blow & Blade Runner took Ishii down tonight.
It was main event time, with Fred Rosser taking on Ren Narita. What started with a handshake offer from Rosser that was rejected and viewed as disrespect turned into a huge battle. It started off a bit slow with Rosser in control, but once that technical style of Narita shined – things really picked up.
Narita is like a junior heavyweight mix of Katsuyori Shibata and Antonio Inoki, with all the skill to match. However the finish was rocky, with Rosser perhaps kicking out of the flash pinfall. However they’d shake hands after the bell – showing some gained respect.
Next week, Tom Lawlor defends the Strong Openweight Championship against Lio Rush. Who will win? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
