Courtney Stodden has opened up on her marriage to ex-husband Doug Hutchinson by referring to it as a ‘conservatorship.’
Courtney Stodden Compares Her Marriage To Ex-Husband Doug Hutchinson As A Conservatorship-‘Couldn’t Even Really Leave The House By Myself’
Courtney, for her part, sent shockwaves when she decided to get married to Doug. There was a significant age gap between them, as Courtney was 16 at the time while Doug was old enough to be her father at 51.
It is not surprising to hear that both had split up, even if Courtney had only managed to finalise her divorce in 2020. But the age gap was not the only thing of concern.
Courtney expanded on how she faced major restrictions during the course of their marriage. This included apparent control over where she could go, as well as having restrictions on finances and how money should be spent.
And given everything that has recently happened with Britney Spears, Courtney recognised that she was in a difficult position. In an interview with Page Six, she said: “I was married into a conservatorship, that’s how it completely felt.
“I just always felt even physically shackled. I couldn’t sign my name on anything. I couldn’t sign a legal document. I couldn’t even really leave the house by myself.”
Just as Britney has managed to overcome her issues, Courtney resonated with the singer’s journey as a way of reflecting on her own life.
The success of the #FreeBritneyMovement resonated with Courtney, and as a result, she could see the parallels between what Britney was saying with her own life.
And in an attempt to get that across, Courtney is working on a new book just like Britney as a way for her to get her side of the story across.
She added: “I just watched ‘Britney Vs. Spears’ on Netflix and it was really emotional for me…[and]I’m going through the book process.”
Courtney has come a long way since then, and she is only going to get stronger. And the fans will be there to support her every step of the way to make sure that she is fine. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this?
