Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling has hit back at supporters of the transgender movement after a certain subset had decided to post her home address online.
Harry Potter Author J. K. Rowling Criticises Transgender Activists For Leaking Her Address On Social Media
J K Rowling, for her part, has not been looked at favourably when it comes to the transgender community after her previous comments about gender and identity were interpreted as being transphobic.
In a post at the time, she had said: “If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased.
“I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives.”
In response, the activists were outraged. They responded by posting J K Rowling’s address online with a picture of her house, which has now put the author in danger, given that she could be subjected to attacks on her house.
In a statement to counter that, J K Rowling stated the following: “Three activist actors…took pictures of themselves in front of our house, carefully positioning themselves to ensure that our address was visible.”
J K Rowling did flag the posts to Twitter as a way to raise her concerns. In addition, J K Rowling asked those who were responsible for sharing that post to take it down.
In this way, she could ensure that her privacy and safety were protected. The response on social media was much the same. Her supporters felt that these actions were out of order and totally irresponsible.
Although J K Rowling may have offended people, it still did not justify what had happened. One person wrote: “We are all human, and death threats are inhumane.
“This isn’t right. Even if you disagree with someone, it proves no reason for this type of harassment. Sending lots of love @jk_rowling!”
Let us hope that the people who were responsible for doing this are held to account and are forced to issue an apology for putting the author in danger. After all, that is the only way that J K Rowling can move on from this.
