Erik ten Hag has expressed his opinion regarding Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from Manchester United by indicating that it is time to move on and focus on the team’s future.
Manchester United Manager Erik Ten Hag Humiliates Cristiano Ronaldo Following His Departure-‘He’s Gone, We Are Now Looking Forward’
Recently, the club has been in a state of disarray after Ronaldo’s shocking interview with Piers Morgan, in which he revealed that he had no regard for the manager.
Not only that, but Ronaldo also questioned the credibility of the club when he hit out at the lack of innovation that had occurred following his initial departure and return to the club.
While that may have been the case, Ten Hag made it absolutely clear in no uncertain terms that Ronaldo was now firmly in the past.
In his comments, he said: “He’s gone and it’s the past. We are now looking forward and we’re looking to the future.” Much in the same way, several eyebrows were raised when Ronaldo was dropped from Portugal’s last-16 tie against Switzerland.
Despite being put on the bench, Portugal managed to overcome their rivals in an impressive 6-1 victory to secure a quarter-final tie with Morocco.
During the course of that process, Ronaldo’s replacement Goncalo Ramos had an immense game. At the age of just 21-years-old, he justified his selection with an impressive hat-trick.
Although Ronaldo did manage to come off the bench and play approximately 20 minutes, he failed to score. And this firmly shows there could be a changing of the guard, with Ronaldo now no longer a mainstay in the side.
The response on social media was much the same. A significant proportion of people felt that it was quite evident that Ronaldo’s career was coming towards an end.
One person wrote: “Why are they asking ten Hag about this guy, he’s being benched by a Benfica striker.” Ronaldo may arguably be the greatest player of all time, but father time does catch up with everyone.
