One of the biggest trade deals in recent history in the NBA looks to be on the verge of completion. The news broke on Wednesday, as it was revealed that a trade between the Brooklyn Nets and Houston Rockets had been agreed for James Harden.
Harden’s future has been under the microscope for the past couple of months, and a move away from the Rockets always looked to be the most likely scenario. There seemed to be no way back for the 31-year-old after his most recent comments, after he claimed that the Rockets were not good enough to compete for the NBA championship this season.
NBA News: Huge Trade Deal Involving Four Teams
The deal isn’t only going to effect the Rockets and Nets, as the Indiana Pacers and Cleveland Cavaliers are also involved. The Rockets will be getting Rodions Kurucs from the Nets, Dante Exum from the Cavaliers and Victor Oladipo from the Pacers. As well as the three players, the Rockets will also be getting three first-round picks at the next NBA Draft, as well as an unprotected draft pick during the 2022 draft from the Cavaliers.
Despite getting huge incentives, it is still hard to argue against the Nets getting the best end of this deal. They will be signing one of the leagues best players, who has bee the top scorer in each of the previous three NBA seasons. Harden was also the 2018 MVP, and a player that could certainly make the difference for the Nets when it comes to winning the NBA Championship this season.
NBA News: Nets Chances Improved With Signing
It goes without saying that the Nets chances of winning the title that they crave immediately improve with the signing of the 31-year-old. The Nets were already one of the teams that fans were keen to see this season, as it marked the first full season of Kevin Durant at the franchise after injury ruled him out of the entirety of the previous campaign.
Brooklyn remained focused on the job at hand on Wednesday despite all the talk surrounding the trade, as they beat the New York Knicks 116-109. Durant showed in that game what Harden would be playing alongside when the trade is completed, as he scored 26 points. Nets fans will already be looking forward to seeing the Durant/Harden partnership, as they previously played together at the Oklahoma City Thunder.
