The story of Toni Storm in WWE is a bittersweet experience for fans. While she started her time in WWE off hot as one of the biggest female stars in their NXT UK brand. She would even go on to win the 2018 Mae Young Classic and NXT UK Women’s Championship.
However, when she jumped ship to NXT and then went to Smackdown Live? That same success was hard to come across. After having her biggest match to date with Charlotte Flair, WWE instead of continuing to build Storm up as a star… she has instead left the company.
Toni Storm Joins The Ever Growing List Of Released Names In 2021
As first reported by Fightful, WWE have now released another budding star in Toni Storm. She joins the likes of Keith Lee, Bray Waytt, Braun Strowman,John Morrison, Karrion Kross, Jeff Hardy, Nia Jax, Tegan Nox and more to be released in 2021. Storm was one of the more popular names in their women’s division, but was very underused when she hit the main roster.
Right now, WWE are focused on training younger athletic girls to wrestle rather than sign indy veterans like Storm. The wording of the report from Sean Ross Sapp is that “Toni Storm is gone from WWE” with additional details unclear. All we know is she will no longer be part of WWE. This could be her quitting due to frustration, her contract running out – or yet another release. Time will tell, and we will do our best to keep you up to date.
Edit: We already have an update, and that is that Toni Storm had requested her release from the company. WWE granted it, meaning in 90 days she will be free to sign with any company of her choosing.
Another Name For The AEW Women’s Division?
However, WWE’s loss might once again become AEW’s gain. Their ongoing TBS Championship tournament has shown just how far their women’s division has come, but you have to imagine they have eyes on someone like Toni Storm. She’s talented, and young – making her a longer term investment than even Ruby Soho.
There are comparisons to be made between Toni Storm & Penelope Ford, but that is just down to their outward presentations – as both wrestle very differently. While the AEW Men’s division is stacked with talent, there is still room to grow for their ladies. Add in her time in Japan making her familiar with the joshi style of Riho & Hikaru Shida, and someone like Storm could only help them grow further.
