When it comes to the career of Toni Storm in WWE, it’s been a single up – and a lot of downs. Her time in NXT UK showed her as the star WWE signed, with her feuding with Rhea Ripley over the NXT UK Women’s Championship. After her time there was finished, she moved to NXT – and didn’t do much of note, with the only highlights being appearing in WarGames and challenging once or twice for the NXT Women’s Championship. She’d be called up to the main roster soon after, and fans had to wait some time to see her enter the ring once again.
WWE Had No Plan For Toni Storm After Call Up From NXT
After her initial call up, Storm would suffer the same fate as so many others who got called up from NXT – being brought up without any real plans of being used. This is a very common criticism lobbied towards WWE, and has left names like EC3 dead in the water in the past. While speaking on the Out of Character podcast, Storm would have the following to say about her time in WWE right after being called up from NXT.
“It’s the worst cause you just don’t know. Obviously, wrestling can be so unpredictable. Next week you could be main eventing and winning a title and everything could be happening or nothing. You don’t know. This is show business at the end of the day. It’s a topsy turvy industry.
When you’re sitting in catering, it’s not a good feeling. Just sitting there waiting for your shot. Waiting for your big break. Waiting to show everyone what you’ve worked your life to be good at. I just sat there asking ‘When am I next? What’s happening?’ Now when stuff starts happening, I’m still like, ‘what’s going on?’ Oh, my God. What is my life?”
A Feud With Charlotte Flair Has Brought Some Hope Back To Fans
Recently, Storm has been getting her biggest amount of focus yet in a feud with Smackdown Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair. This is a step in the right direction, as longtime fans of Storm know she can be one of the best workers in the world given the right chance. Having her as a contender for a championship is a sign that WWE could finally be ready to use Toni Storm.
However, given how fickle WWE has been as of late – it’s equally likely that Storm is cut from her contract in 2022. Given the state of their roster, we can only hope they won’t release someone as young and talented as Storm – especially with her popularity with fans, but 2021 showed that WWE is truly unpredictable.
