Time for another “Wrestling Salvage Yard” this time with a tag team. One of my favorites and definitely my favorite ECW tag team—The Eliminators. This team was made up of Perry Saturn and John Kronus with both men being trained by Killer Kowalski and debuted in 1990 and 1989 respectively. It wouldn’t be until 1993 that they teamed up as The Eliminators—originally the Harvester of Sorrow, a badass faction name. Early on, they were unique staples of the New England indy scene and also got work in USWA down in Memphis. The two of them got work as super agile…

This will be an interesting “Wrestling Salvage Yard” as we look at former WCW star “Lightning Foot” Jerry Flynn. A student of Boris Malenko, he came into the business in 1989 with a background in taekwondo. He would spend his early years with Pro Wrestling Fujiwara Gumi, a now long-defunct shoot style promotion in Japan. WCW Run After that, he would pop up in WWE as an enhancement talent before landing with WCW in 1996. This is what we’re going to focus on salvaging—his 1996-2000 run with the company. When Flynn hit television via WCW Saturday Night bookings, he was…

WWE heads to the home of Jerry “The King” Lawler of February 1999’s St. Valentine’s Day Massacre: In Your House! This event drew over 19,000 for a last man standing World title match between The Rock and Mankind as well as Stone Cold Steve Austin fighting Vince McMahon in a steel cage! The Best Bob Holly taking on Al Snow to crown the Hardcore champion is one of my favorite hardcore division matches from this period. It was just a fun brawl that made the most of the time it was given. No one just showed up with their plunder,…

It’s February 1999 and that means it’s time for WCW SuperBrawl IX from Oakland, California. This show drew a crowd of just under 16,000 and featured Ric Flair taking on Hollywood Hogan in the main event for Hollywood’s World Championship. The Best Kicking off the best, we have Billy Kidman defending his Cruiserweight title against Chavo Guerrero Jr. It was a really good bout but I’d say there’s nothing new for the 90s that will get you percolating. If you’ve seen either of these two in action in WCW over the past two or so years, you know what to…

The ECWA Super 8 Tournament is the marquee event of independent promotion East Coast Wrestling Association’s year. It’s an eight-man, single elimination tournament focused on the best and brightest junior heavyweights on the indies. Some greats you may notice from TNA, IMPACT, and even WWE—and now AEW—have competed in the tournament. Hell, some have even won it. The ECWA Super 8 Tournament Is a Show Where Future Stars Are Born I got into the Super 8 Tournament in the late 90s after hearing about wrestlers such as Reckless Youth and Christopher Daniels competing in it. Daniels would winner of the…

I love looking for retro wrestling matches that really show the early years of some superstars. Sometimes it’s rare stuff while other times it’s known but rarely spoken about. I’d say a New Dimension Wrestling match between Matt and Jeff Hardy fits the bill. This one can be found on the Indie Wrestling Archive on YouTube with a lot of other good, forgotten indy stuff. This match took play in September 1997 and featured Jeff Hardy in his Willow the Wisp gimmick and Matt Hardy as Surge. By this time, the two had appeared on WWE television as enhancement talents and wouldn’t…
