In the U.S, Independence Day is a day of celebrating with family and friends while enjoying barbecue, fireworks, and being terrorized by mosquitoes. It’s also the day where we celebrate another piece of Americana: competitive eating—and there are few names bigger than Joey Chestnut.
Joey Chestnut Aims for 15th Mustard Belt – Would Like to Face Tom Brady in Eating Contest
In getting ready for the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest—held every July 4th—he stopped to chat with TMZ about the upcoming competition. He also mentioned that his inspiration to compete is Tom Brady. Closing in on 40-years-old, Chestnut says that the Tampa Bay quarterback’s ability to compete at a high level into his 40s is what keeps him going.
Of course, the discussion turned to facing Brady in an eating contest which Chestnut is all for—even with his challenger picking the food. The topic came to Tom Brady’s favorite ice cream—avocado—and while he didn’t back down his enthusiasm towards the flavor was very lukewarm. “It’s not the best. It’s better than other weird ice creams like garlic ice cream,” the 14-time champion said.
With that said, just the idea of facing Tom Brady is a big deal to him and he believes that “It would be awesome to eat against him in any food.”
As for the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, Joey Chestnut is seeking his 15th Mustard Belt for his seventh win in a row. He’s confident in getting to 77 hot dogs eaten but will settle for 70. I think he could pull 77 hot dogs never mind winning the competition.
The competition can be followed on fuboTV, the DirecTV app, ESPN.com, and the ESPN app. Coverage kicked off at 10:45 AM Eastern.
