WCW Superbrawl VII is one of those PPVs that lives up to its bombastic name with a ten-match card. On paper, this event looks like it could be a palette cleanser for nWo Souled Out. Then again, that wouldn’t be hard considering the event’s pacing and presentation. WCW SuperBrawl VII: The Best You know what I loved about WCW? The company often put its best foot forward in the first two bouts on the card. Both the WCW Cruiserweight bout between champion Dean Malenko and Syxx as well as the luchadores going at it in a six-man tag were great stuff! Boom! Over 20-minutes into the event and we get some quality stuff. The opener was particularly good but it’s known…

We haven’t done a “Mic Battle” in some time. Let’s see who was better on the mic between two Mid-Atlantic, NWA legends in Ric Flair and Roddy Piper. Ric Flair on the Mic “The Nature Boy’s was a known quantity on the microphone. His—as well as Piper’s—best stuff came when being interviewed. Whether it was the commentary team of Tony Schiavone and David Flair on WCW Saturday Night or “Mean” Gene Okerlund on WCW Monday Nitro, Flair brought the heat. If he was bragging about his wealth and women, you were getting peak Flair. Are fans getting unruly in the front row? Flair roasting them was him at his peak. Was he serious about a potential threat? Flair could sell the match…

Originally, this was going to be about Goldberg’s two WWE runs but instead, let’s look at a hypothetical. Could Goldberg had worked in WWE during the hottest point of the Attitude Era? This isn’t looking at the 2000-2001 period but 1998-1999. Was there somewhere Goldberg could’ve fit in during this time? Whenever you look at a hypothetical in wrestling like this, you have to look at a roster at that time. The Early Attitude Era While WWE had a sizable roster in the late 90s, it wasn’t as bulky as WCW’s roster. Actually, the Attitude Era roster was probably WWE’s most manageable…

We’re back with another “Squash Match Masters”! Cue the Mobil Masterpiece Theatre theme, please. This time we have Yokozuna, one of the cleanest squash match masters to grace WWE! Yokozuna vs. Rich Myers (WWE Superstars, 11/24/92) Myers was introduced first so remember his name because Yokozuna’s about steamroll him. He eats several sumo slaps from the massive man and gets manhandled with a one-armed scoop slam. He treated the dude like a little kid. I’m not saying that large adults should be just slamming little kids or anything. I can’t tell you which was worse: Yokozuna’s massive leg drop to the back of the head…

Back to some classic boxing as we look at part two of the rivalry between British boxing legends Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank. The first showdown in November 1990 was a big money, high drama affair with some heelish tactics by Benn’s team before the fight. It could’ve gone either way with Benn’s dangerously destructive stopping power being tested by Eubank’s toughness and technique. For our wrestling fans think Roman Reigns vs. Daniel Bryan. In end, Eubank managed to hold on to his WBO Middleweight title via a TKO in the eighth round of action. Time Skip As it goes with boxing and…

Squash matches aren’t a lost art even though they’re not as common as they once were on wrestling’s main shows. Often, there are short matches that are perceived as squashes now. We’ll be looking at several squash match masters over the coming weeks via three must-watch squashes. Some are awful in execution while others are just awful for the beatings put on people. In the of Ahmed Johnson, it’s a lot from column A and some from column B—yet always entertaining. The matches featured are available on YouTube with some below. Ahmed Johnson Debuts Against Jake Steel (WWE Superstars, 10/23/95) …

Kicking off 1997 for WCW was nWo Souled Out. It originally started as a new World order-only PPV but became a joint PPV with World Championship Wrestling billing after the first one. Let’s see how it compares to WWE Royal Rumble 1997 in this “Into the Vault”! nWo Souled Out: The Best The Steiner Brothers defeating The Outsiders for the WCW World Tag Team Championships was a really fun match that gave WCW their second win of the night. Still, the new World order was ahead here by four wins. In a bit of WCW taking a page out of the nWo’s book, WCW…

Goldberg. In the late 1990s, he was a sensation for WCW. A powerfully built, no-nonsense wrecking machine who plowed through opponents on a bi-weekly basis. His winning streak—made up mostly of scrubs that he’d eat up in under five minutes—became one of those things you came to expect on WCW Monday Nitro and Saturday Night. Hell, if you were lucky, you’d see him run through someone on WCW Pro and Worldwide. The streak was also what created the legend of Goldberg. However, it became old fast since it was extended a little too long. It did propel him up the roster at a record pace but eventually, he’d be in…
