A Rhode Island sex offender has been indicted by a grand jury for trying to hire a hitman to kill the 12-year-old girl he attempted to have sex with in December 2021. Chandler Cardente (28) received his registered sex offender status after trying to meet up with the girl after chatting on social media in early December. Baltimore judge Melissa Phinn announced that Adnan Syed (41), the subject of the popular true crime podcast Serial, will have his conviction vacated. The order came down after years of looking over the evidence and finding that there really wasn’t strong enough evidence to have him behind bars in the first place. On top of that, it was decided that even if a new trial was desired, the State doesn’t have the juice for it in the way of new evidence.
