Braun Strowman out now for his WWE Intercontinental title shot against Shinsuke Nakamura. I’m Jordan Huie and you’re here with me at the Overtimer as the coverage continues for tonight’s edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown! After a few months’ worth of build, we’re finally getting this match. I predicted Shinsuke would retain, whether by winning by dubious means or some kinda non-finish, but that was before I heard this was actually meant to be some kinda SUPER SmackDown. So… maybe Braun’s got a shot of winning the title here after all.
WWE Intercontinental Championship: Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs. Braun Strowman
Nak with some forearms, hits the ropes, shoulder tackle lays him right out. Braun with a corner charge but Nak gets the boot up, sleeper locked in but quickly broken with him slamming him into the corner. Takes him to the opposite corner, big bodyshots. Charges, destructive avalanche! Charges again for the Big Boot, Sami barely pulls him out of the way and he gets his leg hung up on the top rope. Nakamura clips him, driving knees to the side. Chokes him against the second rope. Distracts the ref as Sami leaps up for a shot to the face!
Shinsuke gets Strowman into a front facelock. Braun fights up to his feet, tosses him away, but a Dragon Whip takes the big man down! Nakamura working over the leg now, kicking and stomping it in the corner. But Braun grabs him by the throat and walks out from the corner! Devastating lariat! Shoulder blocks, biel toss throws him across the ring! Corner clothesline, pulls him out for a battering shot to the chest! Nakamura bails, but Braun pursues for his little steamroll spot. Throws him into the ring, wants the Running Powerslam but Shinsuke escapes, enziguri kick! Hits the ropes, Driving Knee to the back of the head for a nearfall!
Sami Zayn again onto the apron, blatantly pulling off the turnbuckle pad. Cesaro tries to run in off the distraction but the ref catches it. The pad is off… Strowman slams Shinsuke’s face into the exposed buckle whilst the ref is dealing with Cesaro! Braun Strowman plants Shinsuke with the Running Powerslam!! And that is that!
Winner: Braun Strowman
Not a bad match. Commentary trying to make a big deal out of this being Strowman’s first ever singles title.
