NWA Announce New Show Titled 'Circle Squared' | National Wrestling Alliance

The National Wrestling Alliance has been pushing itself into a resurgence of late. The 10 Pounds of Gold series was much acclaimed, and NWA Powerrr has been a revelation in putting the genie back in the bottle for pro wrestling. But NWA owner Billy Corgan is showing some ambition, as he still isn’t done introducing new concepts.

In a video, Corgan claimed that after the debut of NWA Powerrr, many independent talents have come to them wanting to be a part of the oldschool magic. He wanted to devise a means of giving them an opportunity to show their stuff in Powerrr’s unique presentation style and potentially earn themselves onto the show proper.

The result is a unique competition entitled ‘The Circle Squared’.

It sounds simple enough on paper. Talents will be allowed to cut a promo on the NWA podium, showing off their mic work, before taking it to the ring to show how well they can wrestle in NWA’s style. They will do this in front of the live crowd at Atlanta. Should they manage to connect with the audience, they may advance in the series and perhaps even find their way onto the main show.

From the description this comes off similar to a Tough Enough or TNA Gut Check concept, where it’s a running thing that will determine a singular winner in the end. That said, as is usually the case with stuff like this, I’d expect plenty of people to find themselves signed off the heels of something like this.

It’s a pretty great opportunity all things considered, to get to step into the unique world of NWA Powerrr and see how well you fare. No word yet on who will be participating on this show or when we can expect to see it, but I’d imagine it’d be fairly soon. Their next tapings take place the night after their Into The Fire PPV, on December 15th. One would presume this Circle Squared challenge will be part of this.

You can see the press release and announcement video below:

NATIONAL WRESTLING ALLIANCE ANNOUNCES THE CIRCLE SQUARED

On last week’s #NWAPowerrr, NWA President William Patrick Corgan (aka Billy Corgan) teased an announcement that would open the envelope for talents to be a part of the National Wrestling Alliance.

Today, the National Wrestling Alliance and Lightning One announce a new series that will join NWA Powerrr and Ten Pounds Of Gold… The new show is called The Circle Squared.

This series will allow new talents an opportunity to put their money where their mouth is to get a chance to earn an NWA Talent contract. This competition show allows talents selected to step up to the circle of the podium to exhibit their talents on the microphone before stepping into the square of the ring to show their physical abilities in a wrestling match. The key to making the NWA roster and eventually NWA Powerrr will be in these talents ability to connect with the the live audience in Atlanta and the audience watching all over the world. The ultimate winner of The Circle Squared will earn an National Wrestling Alliance contract.

I’m a hardcore wrestling fan, by which I mean I’m a hardcore fan of wrestling... but I also have nothing against hardcore wrestling! I’ve been watching since 2006, back when I was 12 years old. In that time I’ve fervently followed WWE, TNA, ROH, Lucha Underground and others. Today I’m most passionate about NXT, New Japan and especially AEW! You could call me a modern wrestling savant but I know my old school stuff as well... I’ll be your huckleberry all night long.
