The New Year is upon us and so too is another chapter in the Wednesday Night Wrestling Wars! All Elite Wrestling brings us another episode of AEW Dynamite, currently in progress! My name is Jordan Huie, coming to you from TheOvertimer.com to give you another round of recaps and results from the show as they come! It’s a very special one to be sure, AEW Homecoming here on January 1st! So let’s not waste any more time getting into the results!
A big one just went down as I’m typing this! A storied bout, a rematch from a time limit draw at AEW Fyter Fest last year, seeing Cody take on Darby Allin! Allin has been insistent on getting a rematch ever since. When Cody needed a partner in a desperate situation, he saw his chance and took it. Darby took up the spot, allying with Cody Rhodes against MJF’s mercenary team of the Butcher and the Blade, with the stipulation that if they won, the rematch would occur! Indeed they did get the job done those couple of weeks ago, and as such, the match was on for the New Year’s special!

Darby hits his flip stunner! Darby up top, Cody rolls to the apron… COFFIN DROP! Takes Cody into the ring, kick to the face as he pursues. Less than five minutes left. Cody wants the Cody Cutter but Darby blocks, wants the flipping Stunner again, but Cody blocks it, Crossrhodes spikes him! BUT DARBY KICKS OUT! Cody waits for Darby to rise, charges, Darby evades and he nails that banged up shoulder against the exposed buckle! Darby rushes up top for another Coffin Drop, but Cody barely gets the knees up – with some coaching from Arn to help him out – and Cody rolls Darby up for the win!
Winner: Cody
This time around there was no draw. Cody managed to eek out the win, just barely. But he comes out of it with a seriously banged up shoulder for his troubles, with Darby even managing to kick out of his finisher. It was a narrow win and to me it’s clear that one day Darby’s gonna get that victory over Cody.
