Steel Cage Match: Cody vs. Wardlow
This is a big one, folks. As mentioned above, it’s the first time a steel cage of any sort has been used in AEW. This one was announced way back on January 1st, part of AEW Homecoming in Jacksonville. Wardlow is MJF’s bodyguard and closest ally in the world. He’s also the man who delivered one of the ten lashes of the leather belt back in Hunstville – the worst of them by most people’s description, and I mean that in a good way. I guess. He really messed up his back, is what I’m saying, the guy is a beast.
Easily one of AEW’s biggest and strongest, we’ve been wondering when we’d get to see Wardlow in action for quite some time. Turns out, he was being saved for a very special occasion. He faces Cody tonight for the sake of his boss, Maxwell Jacob Friedman and the stakes are fairly high here. This is the last big thing Cody has to do, the main event of the three big stips that MJF forced on him if he wants that match at Revolution. If Cody loses here, the match is off. He must face the powerhouse in a steel cage and come out victorious, there’s no other option.
It seems crazy to think Wardlow could lose in his debut, doesn’t it? The size, the menace, the length of time we’ve waited for it, the hype behind him… and yet, he must lose. There’s basically no choice but for him to lose, as Cody/MJF at Revolution has to happen, it’s among the big marquee bouts. It’s a big fight situation to be sure in a big venue. But Cody has got to take this one.
