It’s that time again, as we’re brought to another chapter of the raging Wednesday Night Wars! And thus, we’ve got ourselves another edition of AEW Dynamite this evening! After making his long awaited in-ring debut at AEW Revolution, Jake Hager will be having first Dynamite match tonight against Dustin Rhodes’ new partner QT Marshall! I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer and you can expect the same recap and results tonight as always for this show! Plus, a preview of everything that’s been announced! Though this week it took a little longer than usual, we did end up getting a full card as per usual. So let’s get into what we have in store!
Jake Hager vs. QT Marshall
Jake Hager has underwent quite an overhaul since the days in which he was known as Jack Swagger back in WWE. Gone are the goofy grins, glad handing and parading around the ring pretending to be an airplane with Michael Cole. Gone, too, are the stars and stripes that used to make him feel a bit like a discount Kurt Angle – and the Ankle Lock finish didn’t help matters there either. In it’s place was sheer stoicism, backed up by the occasional explosive burst whenever he felt the need to attack. The All-American American is gone and in his place is Big Hurt, the undefeated MMA fighter who will choke you out with zero hesitation.
It took several months of playing the part of Chris Jericho’s unbreakable and unreadable silent bodyguard before finally the day came where he stepped into the ring himself. It was only right that it be against Dustin Rhodes, a bout that was first foreshadowed way back on October 2nd, Dynamite’s debut, where Hager first appeared for AEW. At the show, we got our first glimpse of what Hager brings to the table. And it’s about what you’d expect. He feels very legit, skilled and powerful, capable of knocking your head off or breaking your arm whenever he wants. This is not at all a bad foundation.
But I think the real strength, for him and AEW’s other expanding list of big men, will be seen when he goes up against the smaller members of the roster. Not only will he look all the more menacing next to them but he’ll better be able to toss them around like crazy. We will likely be seeing that right here as he faces Dustin’s buddy QT, a clear-cut victim for the evening if ever there was one. Hager over.
