For all the issues that seem to exist between NJPW & AEW, the contract clause to allow AEW talent to work in Japan seems very common. The latest person to have this is ‘Broken’ Matt Hardy, who recently debuted on the last episode of AEW Dynamite. Would he even have a good reason to work in NJPW?
Matt Hardy Made This Known On Twitter
Much like every wrestler around, Matt Hardy wants a spot on Wrestle Kingdom in the future. Taking to Twitter, he planted the seeds with a very to the point tweet after a reply from a fan who wanted to see him in NJPW just once. “My contract would allow that. Truth be told, I’d love the opportunity to perform on a NJPW Wrestle Kingdom show in some capacity.” is what Hardy had to say.
Would He Work In NJPW?
While many do feel NJPW should be reserved for top level performers, which 2020 Matt Hardy is not, there would be room in the undercard tag matches for some fun matches with him. He could work with comedy experts like Toru Yano or Ryusuke Taguchi. Hardy could team with legends like Yugi Nagata, Satoshi Kojima and Hiroyoshi Tenzan. He could be paired with an elite level worker like Will Ospreay or Hiromu Takahashi to make him look like the Matt Hardy of old. With someone as creative as Hardy, there is always options to work him into any show.
Could Lance Archer Return To NJPW?
With people like IWGP United States Champion Jon Moxley, Chris Jericho & now Matt Hardy being able to work in NJPW, it begs the question if Lance Archer has the same contract clause. Prior to joining AEW, he spent many years as a member of the Suzuki-Gun faction in NJPW, before going solo in 2019 with great runs in the G1 Climax & the New Japan Cup. He even claimed the IWGP United States Championship before losing it to Jon Moxley at Wrestle Kingdom 14. Fans would embrace the American Psycho back with open arms, as his chaos has been missed. Time will tell who is able to go overseas to NJPW, as it seems like a common offer for talent.
