With how creatively bankrupt WWE can be as of late, it isn’t surprising that talent will go to the writers and Vince McMahon himself to pitch some ideas. No one knows their characters better than themselves, especially when you’re Matt Hardy. Since the moment he brought the Broken Matt character into WWE, it was linked to Bray Wyatt.
This would lead to some battles at the Hardy Compound and even a run as tag team champions. With two insanely creative individuals like Hardy & Wyatt, it was surprising WWE seemingly ran out of things for them to do, and took them off TV. At the time people assumed one was injured, but Matt Hardy has revealed during an interview with Busted Open Radio, this was not the case.
Matt Hardy Reveals Why Deleters Of Worlds Were Taken Off TV
“I think the reason Bray and I were pulled off TV at that time was they were tired of us suggesting ideas and how to use the Hardy compound and we shouldn’t be wrestling all the time,” said Hardy. “I think that whole scenario could have been so much more if we were able to get people to listen to our ideas. We wanted Bray because his house had been burned down and he lost his Wyatt family.
We literally wanted him to come here with a stick and a bandana and no belongings, join the Hardy Compound, have Senior Benjamin out having him do chores and have King Maxel bossing him around. If we could have gotten to those vignettes and done that stuff, I think we could have had some magical stuff because two characters like Bray was and myself, we’re much more a vignette team as opposed to going out and having three-minute match every single Raw.”
Matt Hardy was absolutely right in that characters like Wyatt & himself shouldn’t be working every show, as their power lies in their ability to be interesting without getting physical. The ideas mentioned by Hardy, especially done with the budget available within WWE would have made for some of the best TV they would have produced at the time.
AEW Bound
This is just one of many reasons why Matt Hardy was eager to leave WWE once his contract was up. With him now a free agent and being heavily teased by AEW, it is only a matter of time before he shows up there. Do you think Matt Hardy will find his creative freedom in AEW?
