New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) wrestler and RevPro British Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay and wrestling media platform Wrestle Talk came together over several days to put together No Fans Monday in the United Kingdom. The event was in the same vein as Wrestle World Stardom’s (Stardom) No People Gate on March 8th, as the name suggests the matches were held without fans due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
Throughout the festivities, talent had the opportunity to cut several promos and remark on their matches those promos are not specifically covered in this article.
No Fans Monday Undercard Analysis
The event began with RevPro British Cruiserweight Champion Michael Oku losing a match against Paul Robinson, who formerly teamed with Ospreay in the Swords Of Essex tag team. Despite being the opener, the contest was one of the better of the night.
Oku continues to be one of the brightest young talents on the independent scene in the United Kingdom, surely having a career in NJPW, All Elite Wrestling, or another ‘high work rate’ promotion is in his future. With Revolution Pro Wrestling being a key member of the IWGP Conception, Oku could likely end up in New Japan. Robinson showed a high level of skill and set the foundation of the match.
The second match saw Chuck Cyrus defeat Mailk, Paul Sayers, Adam Maxted, and Carlos Romo in a chaotic scramble match where the first fall led to victory. Romo stood out in the match and looks to have a fairly high ceiling.
The third match saw Gisele Shaw RevPro British Women’s Champion defeat Mercedes Blaze in a competitive match, that went beyond expectations and was a great showing for both. Those unfamiliar with either should watch their match in full, as it highlights two women with a wealth of potential.
The fourth match saw David Starr defeat teenager Callum Newman in a match Starr was able to lead and help showcase the potential of Newman. Newman has a bright career in front of him, while Starr has yet to reach his ceiling inside the ring.
Team Sin (Lucas Steel/Nathan Cruz) defeated Robbie X and Scotty Davis in the fifth match of the evening, while a solid tag team match it didn’t flow like other matches on the card. Lucas Steel recently became a member of the All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) roster and will have the opportunity to grow into a high caliber wrestler over the next several years.
The undercard didn’t follow the ‘perfect show theory’ NJPW fans are accustomed to, but it did offer excitement and solid efforts from everyone involved.
