WWE Monday Night Raw continues. Rey Mysterio will now face WWE US Champion Andrade in a non-title match and for some reason Asuka is at the broadcast table.
Rey Mysterio vs. Andrade (Non-title)
Andrade with a snapmare, charging basement dropkick. Elbow drop to the back. Rey with a kick off a back body drop attempt, wristlock, springing lucha arm drag. Shoulder block to the gut of Andrade, Zelina grabs Rey’s leg but still gets Andrade with a back elbow off a charge. Springboards in but gets taken out with a dropkick out of the air for a nearfall, commercial break.
We come back to see Rey on Andrade’s shoulders, sending down punches. Eventually he gets him with a headscissors that takes him to the turnbuckle pad. Asuka is furious, greatly in Andrade’s corner. Rey nails a West Coast Pop, headscissors, rolls through a sunset flip attempt, roundhouse kick to the head for a 2 count! Asuka howls. Mysterio with a springboard moonsault attempt, Andrade shoves him off but gets taken to the middle ropes, avoids a 619 attempt and clobbers him for a nearfall. The champion gets Mysterio with the first two of the Three Amigos but Mysterio counters the third into a headscissor to the ropes for the 619! Goes up top, Frog Splash for the victory!
Winner: Rey Mysterio
And so a non-title victory, and they implied during the match that such a win would likely earn him a title match. Many people certainly assumed these two would be battling it out for the United States Championship at WrestleMania. It’s of course harder to tell what their plans for that might be these days, whether they still intend on having it be as long of an event with as many matches as it otherwise would’ve and such. But it’s certainly the direction regardless.
Incidentally Asuka sounded like she was gonna throw up after that match, she was just that upset by it. This parlays into a video package showing Shayna Baszler methodically destroying the Raw Women’s division back at the Elimination Chamber, plus the post-show promo she cut promising victory at WrestleMania. I assume this means we’ll soon be seeing from Becky Lynch, who again, rode in tonight in a semi-truck with her face emblazoned on the side in a nod to 3:16 day tonight. I gotta assume she’ll be interacting with Steve Austin.
