AEW Dark continues and we’re wasting no time at all, going right into our second match of the evening as Shawn Spears takes on another Shawn in guest wrestler Shawn Dean. Spears is of course still on the lengthy #SearchForSpears in which he’s been looking for a tag team partner. Last week he teamed up with Robert “Ego” Anthony in a very noteworthy match, where it seemed clear that Anthony was actually carrying the team, only for Spears to inevitably ditch him like he does all the others.
I’d expect to see Anthony back at some point, but for now the #SearchForSpears angle is put on hold as he has a chance at a singles title now, and thus will be getting a tune-up match here in his first singles bout in a while. By the way if this was WWE, Dean would definitely have to change his name. Dean is evidently a navy man, his tron says “The Captain” and he’s coming out in a navy jacket. Spears’ custom-made shirt this time around reads “Impress Me”. Throws that shirt at Brandi Rhodes after his entrance.
Shawn Spears vs. Shawn Dean
Lock-up, Spears takes Dean into the corner, clean break. Spears is smiling, dancing a bit. Wristlock, Dean rolls out of it, kip-up, Spears with a snapmare. Yells at him rather than take advantage. Waistlock, Dean reverses, Spears with a drop toe hold, turns it into a cover for 2. Stand off. Lock-up, spins him around, snapmare, cartwheel and a middle finger. Dean is displeased. Spears starts gloating to the camera. Dean with a spin kick to the midsection, salutes him, his the ropes, Spears counters with a big time clothesline to flip him onto his face! Kicks him into the corner, grinds the boot into the chin. Pulls him to his feet, center of the ring, back suplex landing hard. Hoists him onto his shoulders, Running DVD and that’s that, a non-nonchalant cover gets the win.
Winner: Shawn Spears
Cody reveals that the tattoo on his shoulder was once a Brahma Bull before he replaced it with a panther and he’d really hate it if anyone revealed that. Of course he’d hate being hit over the back of the head with a steel chair. Funny line there. It’s nice to see that just because a feud hasn’t been relevant in a while, the story is still there.
