In an interview with WhatCulture, AEW superstar Chris Jericho discussed a couple of things about the company. One thing that really stood out was his interest in WWE SmackDown brand superstar Roman Reigns coming to All Elite Wrestling.
“I’d put Roman Reigns at the top of that wishlist for anybody,” Jericho said. “Not only is he a great worker but he’s such a cool guy. If they just let him be him he’d be the biggest star in the industry, for real. That’d be a guy I’d love to get my hands on for sure.”
Before social media and streaming media, it was hard to get this kind of candid response from a top guy about another top guy in a competing company. At least to get a response that wasn’t a snide comment or a roast.
When Chris Jericho was last in WWE, he was able to work with and against Reigns several times, so he has some insight into The Big Dog. Since he apparently enjoyed their matches together, it’s not surprising that Le Champion would tag him as a hot signing.
Roman Reigns In All Elite Wrestling
It’s highly unlikely that we’ll ever see him in All Elite Wrestling. Actually, it’s more likely to see him retire or go on hiatus before going to AEW. However, you should never say never. There is a question of how Reigns would fit in with the product.
The thing with that is that older WWE guys like Dustin and Matt Hardy have found a place in AEW and fans have taken to them. Contemporaries such as Shawn Spears and Brodie Lee have also found a place in the company. Hell, if TNA veterans can fit in, someone who has received global exposure and were at the top of the company could fit in with All Elite Wrestling.
Actually, AEW’s lynchpin and biggest star—Chris Jericho—is a former WWE guy who has been at the top. Roman Reigns can definitely find a place there. That said, it’s not an issue of how he would be used but how he comes in.
The obvious idea would be for him to come in as a heel since that’s what fans have been wanting. Again, it’s super obvious but it would most likely go over well given AEW’s environment. Sometimes, superstars thrive better in new settings and it gives that wrestler a fresh breath of air.
Just look at Christian and Kurt Angle’s runs in TNA as the best example of this. All Elite Wrestling could be the redemption of Roman Reigns. Check out the interview with WhatCulture below.
