Despite having the best tag team division in wrestling today, AEW continues to build it. While #FTR is the biggest new addition, and the union of Kip Sabian & Jimmy Havoc has potential, there’s one team that has been simmering underneath on AEW Dark who could be set for huge things. This is the team of Sonny Kiss & Joey Janela, two of the more offbeat members of the roster.
Sonny Kiss & Joey Janela Are Filming Vignettes For AEW
In a post from the Instagram story of Sonny Kiss, we would see Janela & Kiss driving around while having microphones attached to them. This could only mean one thing, and that is this team getting a more proper chance in the stacked tag team division of AEW. Building upon both mens unique charismatic personalities will only serve to create a fantastic baby-face team for the company, and we can almost expect something in the vein of Booker T & Goldust; one of the best odd-couple tag teams in wrestling history.
Improving Their Chemistry On AEW Dark
While AEW Dark isn’t as high on the totem pole as Dynamite, it has proven vital for helping to build up under-card acts. While we mostly see matches involving AEW talent clashing with unsigned talent, it’s the perfect place for a tag team to find their style. Kiss & Janela have had two matches as a tag team, but they’re already finding themselves. They’ve beaten the teams of Corey Hollis & Mike Reed as well as Brady Pierce & John Skyler so far. But they will not be in action this week on Dark as Sonny Kiss is in singles action with Christopher Daniels, his biggest singles match yet in AEW. Could we see Janela in his corner for this one?
Janela Needs A New Role
In recent weeks, we’ve seen Joey Janela be a partner with Private Party for six man tag matches. This was his only consistent role in the company thus far, but after Matt Hardy would seemingly align with Private Party instead, it left Janela without a role in the company. He’s been impressive whenever given the spotlight, and even fit in well last minute at Double Or Nothing. Hopefully this partnership with Sonny Kiss is all he needs to finally get something long term started.
