AEW Dark continues and out comes Lee Johnson once again, still giving it the ‘ol college try even as he comes out with that 0-10 record. This time around he’s up against Shawn Spears who is for the first time coming out to the ring with that single black glove that is being given a lot of weight and sentiment, it’s a callback to the bygone days of the Blackjacks and Barry Windham among many others. Spears skipped the chair entrance and looks a lot more intense and focused on his way to the ring.

Lock-up, wrist lock from Spears. Lee flips through, hammerlock cinched in takes him to the mat. Spears fights to his feet, drives him into the corner for the break. Back elbow! Knife edge chop drops him to the mat, whip to the opposite corner. Lee with the floatover, tries an arm drag but Spears blocks. Standing switch but an elbow stops that, whip to the corner, charging high knee to the chest! Sends Lee to the floor. Spears takes Johnson into the ring, Lee fights back with a baseball slide, hits the ropes for a tope but Spears stops him with an elbow to the head! Suplex position hangs him upside down against the ropes, pump kick to the face! Back suplex sends him spinefirst onto the steel frame!
Shawn takes him into the ring, grinds the wrist into the face. Side headlock, Lee leaps up and lands on top of him to break! I’m not sure that was on purpose but it actually worked. They both slowly rise, Lee with a series of strikes, uppercut, dropkick to the legs! He swings around for a Single Leg Hook Kick, kip up! Charges for an uppercut, Spears tries to duck it but I think he gets a knee instead, takes Lee to the apron, but he gets him with a forearm, pullover but Spears catches him and tries for the C4, Lee escapes, Spears steps through into the Sharpshooter and the man is Canadian so this is a finish!
Winner: Shawn Spears
Spears had a pretty wild look on his face as he had him locked in that Sharpshooter and of course he made sure to keep it on a few seconds longer than expected. I kinda like this, the playing on tradition with this gimmick does suit Spears like, well, a glove.
