While some might want to rest up before having a date with Jon Moxley. Just one night before the AEW Championship match with Moxley, Brian Cage will make his first defense of the FTW Heavyweight Championship since March 21st, 1999. The final time it was defended came when Taz won it back from Sabu at Living Dangerously before merging it with the ECW Championship.
Now, 21 years later, Brian Pillman Jr. has the honor of trying to trying to hand Cage his first AEW loss before Moxley even has a chance to do so.
The FTW Championship Could Become A Fixture Of AEW Dark
While AEW Dark brings some fun matches on occassion, it lacks enough draw to bring all but the most dedicated AEW fans. Lately, it’s been just established AEW talents beating hopefuls. While some stars like Serpentico and Robert Anthony have emerged, and Pillman Jr. got his chance at AEW though it, it’s hardly the most interesting show. However, add in some more frequent title matches using something like the FTW Championship could help raise interest. Knowing we’d see Brian Cage demolish someone every week would atleast give it a steady draw.
Brian Cage Would Likely Merge The FTW Championship With The AEW Championship
Should Cage win at Fight For The Fallen, we’d likely see history repeat itself. He only needs the FTW Championship due to Taz feeling Cage is the real world champion. If he becomes the AEW Championship, that would simply become true and he’d have no need for the the FTW Championship, and much like Taz back in the day? He’d simply merge the championships, and ensure no one else claims the FTW Championship. In defeat however, he’d still be the FTW Champion, giving him a role of prominence within AEW in it’s own little way. He’s not putting his championship on the line, so he will leave with gold either way the match goes.
Do you think Brian Pillman Jr. has a chance to actually beat Brian Cage and become FTW Champion? Will Cage leave Fight For The Fallen with the AEW Championship? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
